House and role debuts highlight Javier Camarena’s 2017-18 season

This season brings Javier Camarena around the world performing role and house debuts in Los Angeles, Madrid, and New York.

Javier opens the season in Los Angeles where he makes his LA Opera debut in Les pêcheurs de perles, performing alongside Nino Machaidze, Alfredo Daza, and Nicholas Brownlee, in a production led by General Director Plácido Domingo and Grant Gershon. Les pêcheurs de perles runs October 7 to 28.

Following his visit to California, Javier makes a role debut as Fernand in Donizetti’s La favorite at Teatro Real. The bel canto specialist sings under the baton of Daniel Oren. Also starring Simone Piazzola, Jamie Barton, Marina Monzó, Simón Orfila, Antonio Lozano and Alejandro del Cerro, La favorite comes to the Madrid stage on November 2 and 6.

Javier begins a tour of Spain on November 10 with a recital with Guadalupe Paz in Oviedo, followed by a solo recital on November 13 in Seville. In Madrid, the Mexican tenor performs a Gala concert at the Teatro de la Zarzuela on November 19, and continues the tour with an homage to Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas, Spain on November 24, and the star-studded Richard Tucker Gala on December 10 at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Rounding out the year, Javier returns to Zurich in December to perform one of his most celebrated roles, Tonio in La fille du régiment. February 2018 sees Javier back at the Metropolitan Opera where he debuts another role, Idreno in Rossini’s Semiramide. Javier reunites with conductor Maurizio Benini in production that includes a stellar cast – Angela Meade sings the title role, Elizabeth DeSong performs the role of Arsace, Ildar Abdrazakov as Assur, and Ryan Speedo Green in the role of Oroe.

In the spring of 2018, Javier gives a recital in Dublin with soprano Rebeca Olvera, sings an homage to Manuel García in the Salzburg Festival, and performs in a concert presentation of Maria Stuarda at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Closing out the 2017-18 season, Javier revisits Teatro Real Madrid for another debut as Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
